What is Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic ?

Chiropractic stem from Ancient Greek meaning to be done by hands. To put simply, Chiropractors use their hands to treat different neuromusculoskeletal alignments. Chiropractic started in the late 1890s, but has evolved a lot since. Traditionally, chiropractic is based on bone setting, and restoring dysfunction in the nervous system in order to restore health. In the early years of chiropractic, it was believed that most health disorders arise from “vertebral subluxation” within the spine, resulting in dysfunction of the nervous system, which leads to health problems. However, with time, the profession has evolved and became experts in neuromusculoskeletal injuries. Although some chiropractors still believed that most health disorders arise from the spine, most chiropractor today focus on neuromusculoskeletal alignment, and uses variety of techniques to restore dysfunction.

What does Chiropractic means to me ?

I am a firm believer of following the evidences, and making clinical decisions based on experience, good quality evidences, and scientific rationale. This means I believed that chiropractors should treat within their areas of expertise, and work along side other health care providers in order to achieve the best outcome for the patients.

As a chiropractor, I used technique such as soft tissue therapy, electric modalities, mobilizations/ manipulations, and active therapy to improve my patient’s functions. Often times, when one think of chiropractors, they think about “cracking joints” (manipulation). However, to me manipulation is just one tool in the tool box, there are many other tools, such as active therapy, soft tissue therapy, and electrical modalities that I will use to treat my patients. At the end of the day, the goal is to improve the patient’s outcome as quickly as possible.
